The Rock

“The rock lays near while light comes and goes. The rock only exist, said to have no soul. The rock cannot be sad. It knows not the time. It has no life to hold. It cannot feel love. As we admire it, it remains in stillness. Yet in its own way, may watch!”

Lloyd Carle Owl (Cherokee)

A Prayer

“Then I was standing on the highest mountain of them all, and round about beneath me was the whole hoop of the world. And while I stood there, I saw more than I can tell and I understood more than I saw; for I was seeing in a sacred manner the shapes of all things in the spirit, and the shape of all shapes as they must live together like one being. And I say the sacred hoop of my people was one of the many hoops that made one circle, wide as daylight and as starlight, and in the center grew one mighty flowering tree to shelter all the children of one mother and one father. And I saw that it was holy…

But anywhere is the center of the World.”

Black Elk, Holy Man of the Oglala Sioux

  1. I have a rock. A really great rock, that is perfectly shaped and curved to fit two people. It is big and strong and has survived many a flood. I can’t say it is totally mine, as it belongs to whoever rests on it for the moment and to the earth, but to me, it is mine. Mine holds life, supporting me when I need a place to sit and rest and contemplate life. It is one of my favorite places to go. Thanks for the reminder. I think I’ll make a visit today. Peace.

  2. memphisbelle, nice to see you this morning. I have some kona in hand just gettin’ caught-up. I modifying this page as you were sending your commentary (The Rock was missing a line or two) LOL!

We all need some place of refuge to get away and think, even if but for a short while. Your rock sounds like an interesting spot. I too, have retreats (a mulitude) to which I journey for contemplation. I vary my destination according to the calling of my spirit. Unfortunately, I am not always able to find the time to visit my favorites; some of which have been void of my presence for a long while.

We’ll catch you on the flip!

  3. Hawk,

Do you know who the artist is for the ‘The Spirit of the Warrior’ picture? I must admit, that last night I had just about had all of the “happy holidays” I could stand. With 3 adult children and 2 grandchildren, I felt like my life was total chaos & looked forward to returning to work! I was doing a little surfing before bed and found myself reading thru a hawk’s view of 2007. I remember reading the words chaos and heart and soul, and then I was looking at that magnificient picture! I stopped reading for a long, long time, absorbing a calmness from the soft soothing background sounds while looking into the warrior’s face and I was suddenly totally calm. The spirit of the warrior is very strong and moving. Sorry to run on so long, but I would be very interested to get a print of that picture! Oh, to see that same artist do a picture of the tribes elder wise woman. She too would be something powerful to behold. Thank you for having this lovely place to drop by a take a moment to relax and reflect.

  4. Blazin, I’ll have to get back with you on the artist. It won’t be anytime soon as I will be traveling out-of-town but I will get back to you on this. A picture of a tribe’s elder woman would be something to view.

It’s nice to here you enjoy your visits at my haunt. Stop by anytime and offer whatever you like. Don’t worry about going on so long. I don’t recall any postings limiting commentary so have at it as you will.

Thank you for being a fan and a new contributor. I have a feeling you will be returning regularly! Mata ne…
