Hawk’s Book Meme

The delightful and blogging humorist Miss Harley Quinn has tagged this bird with a Book Meme. Here are the . . .

Rules:

1. Pick up the nearest book of at least 123 pages.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the next three sentences.
5. Tag five people.

The three sentences which follow the 5th from my nearest book are . . .

    “Come on!” said Ron.

She hesitated for a second longer, then ducked under the cloak with Harry and Ron.

Nobody noticed them vanish; they were all too interested in Fred and George’s products.

The lines are from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Chapter 6 - Draco’s Detour.

hphalfblood.jpgThis is what I am currently reading aloud with my children.

And now I pass the tags to Polar, Rolando, Sib, Jesse and Susie, if they care to join in the disclosure.

In case you were wondering what I may have had stacked on my desk, these were the nearest available choices: The Power of Full Engagement by Jim Loehr and Tony Schwartz, a Cookbook by Paula Deen, a compilation of American Historical Documents, The Paradox of Power by Pat Williams, Let Freedom Ring by Sean Hannity, and Harry Potter. Harry just happened to be on the very top of the stack. As you are laughing at the Hawk for having a cookbook, I have you know that I can do some pretty damn good cooking when I put my mind to it and all that cooking ain’t all in the kitchen either, you know?

    There you go Harley.

Thanks for including me on the tag.

    1. I enjoyed the HP books, and I can’t even claim to have read them with any kids! It was just my own pleasure in them. :D

Always fun to see what other people have in their reading piles!

    2. Shutterbug, I just happened to be in Email when your comment was delivered. My children notwithstanding, I personally enjoy the HP books. We are a little behind with getting caught up on the entire series. Actually, we have only seen the first movie. Take care my friend.

    3. I love Paula Deen’s coobooks, so no laughter here…I saved that for Hannity. *l* Brushing up for POTUS? :) Thanks for playing.

    4. [...] Dream Biscuit What’s in my bookbag, Meme. February 2, 2008 Hey Y’all. Hawk tagged me with the reading meme so here it [...]

    5. Hawk,
Got it, did it, thanks. We over here in the Court copped out when it came to the Potter books. We would get them on an audio tape and play it for the kids during anyone of many cross country trips. The kids kept quiet and the drive (15 hours or 2.5 days) seemed to go faster.
Cook book! Well I know a Tavern that’s looking for a short order cook…

    6. Harley, glad you got a chuckle from Hannity. Keep brushing up!

      ~
Polar, we have only just begun listening to a few audio books. So you say there’s a position available at a tavern, eh? Hmmm…will have to check it out after I go peak at your book bag.

    7. Paula Deen? Hannity? Williams? Jim Loehr? So we are cooking up politics, with a little upper management smooth talking skills and some self help in business? Heck of a pile there bird man, wonder where your headed…

    8. Sorrow, where ever the road leads that allows me to get things together. I guess that’s where I’m headed or at least that’s the plan for the moment. No telling where I will find myself.

    9. Thanks for the tag, Hawk. I’ve already been tagged by Sorrow and when I was tagged the nearest book was a financial mathematics book in Finnish. My nearest book now is a law book also in Finnish, so I guess I will do this meme when I have better books handy :)

    10. Hello,
Thanks so much for this new tag,do you know,I have actually now completed your ‘kitchen description in poetry ‘ tag…I intend to post it up next week! It took me a little while, but boy,I got it done at last :)
Quite an interesting list of books you have on your desk,Hawk. How sweet of you to be reading out loud to the baby Hawks, thats too cute a vision :)
I am a lover of good cooking books,i can often spend hours just lying in bed at night reading cook books..I get quite intrigued deciding what recipes to try…and gazing at the beautiful pictures.Nothing at all out of place with you having cookery books on your desk…as you mention, you dont ONLY cook up a storm in the kitchen, lol!
Have fun,my Raptor Friend…and not too much Kahlua in the coffee..at least, not without sending some to your buddies, namely ME!

    11. ps..I love the last comment you left on my blog! I agree totally, we must blog for ourselves, and if anyone reads and comments, thats cool.If they dont, thats also cool. Thanks so very much for you most valued(as you already know) comment!! :) take great care and fly as free as you always do…

    12. Whoa! You gave your blog a make over! I’m digging the Spanish music. This meme is very cool! I think I might do it when I get home from studying tonight.

    13. So wonderful that you are reading this to your children!
God how i would love a cloak like that!!

Good energy to you and yours!

    14. Susie, my regrets for the double tag. I’ll catch you on the next one whenever it comes around. You mean to say you don’t think anyone could read your Finnish? LOL! I hope you have a smooth transition with moving your site. Good to see you. The newest picture of your grandson on your site is adorable. Again, a fine looking young man. Take care.

Jesse, the reading thing has always been a constant with the kids. Even now as they are older it continues to be something we do regularly. I have rule they must read at least 30 minutes a day without distraction. No T.V.. No radio. Just read! I read something somewhere someone wrote that went “Drink In Life; And Soar.” I love this. Wonder if I can steal it for use? I’ll send you some Kahlua if you need it. XOXOX

      ~
Scott, yo wassup? Some minor changes took place and glad you like the Latin mix. I have since added three more selections to play list. See what happens when you are gone for awhile. Good to see you and hope all is well with your health and schooling.

      ~
Gypsy-Heart, a cloak to hide, eh? Hmmmm…I have a transporter than can beam you where ever you want to go! Interested?

    15. Harry Potter, huh? I have never even picked up one of those books, and not because I dislike them. It’s really because I’m slow! You know, let everyone else read them (they started in ‘97), make a few movies (first one out was in ‘01), get all wild and crazy about Harry( whoo hooo!) and then let the dust settle a bit. That’s what I like to do. ;)

Glad to hear you are reading to your kids. That does paint a nice picture, reading to the little hawks! We are reading Misty of Chincoteague now and mine are loving that.

Oh, and nice variety of books! Paula’s my kind of gal, always cookin’ with a stick o’ butter!

    16. Jazmine, a happy Sunday morning at you. I’m the same way. I can’t tell you the number of books or movies (when I watch one) I read or watch after it’s been out for some time. So I guess I’m slow too. Misty of Chincoteague? Is that not an island or tribe of Indians on the east coast somewhere, around North Carolina? Paula Deen does use a whole lotta butter…in everything. Sheesh! She does this thing called butter burgers where she fries patties in 10 lbs.(not really) of butter. Now, I love southern cooking but this is a bit over-the-top! I have only tried the butter burgers once. I’ll stick with my other seasonings. Later.

    17. Hawk this is really cool meme, I think I will use this one in the future even I wasn’t tagged, I find very interesting, Anna :)

    18. ok I JUST posted what I found on Gypsy Heart’s blog (which was from the Davinci Enigma)DOH! so my contribution is over there - I love Harry Potter too! HUGS- sib

    19. Anna, it was a very good one to do. It’s interesting discover the some of the reading interests among the blogging community. Thanks for the shout.

      ~
Sib, I’ll go check it out. Surprisingly, I have discovered myself enjoying the HP series very much. Hugs back at you! We’ll catch you on a return flight.

    20. Hawk,
I have a tech question. How did you place your Potter book image in the text without having the matching text line expand to the size of the image?

    21. Polar, I sent you a separate Email. If you need further assistance check out this link or contact me via Email. Dobry

    22. Got it. Appreci…Used it to rework my book meme. Thanks

    23. Polar, good deal, :-)

    24. quote “I can do some pretty damn good cooking when I put my mind to it and all that cooking ain’t all in the kitchen either”—-

Only you wpuld come out with that. Is this an example of Glengoyne and blogging being incongruent activities???? Hilarious and fun. Thanks for brightening up the day! HUGS-

    25. Sib, thanks for stopping by for a visit. My regrets for not having any sweet tea to offer ya. Perhaps I will have some made for your next visit. To answer your question, this was not one of them incongruent activities. Actually, it was nothing more than my southern reeling at the mouth (or in this case, my fingers) whilst concluding the post. If truth be told, the only cookin’ I be doing here lately has been strictly confined to the kitchen and making certain undisclosed people boiling mad. Of course, this is what I do with committed enthusiasm and zeal; that is to make people mad. It’s akin to the nature of a scorpion, you know! These critters mind you, can’t help but sting when provoked. That’s about all the news from this here part of the woods exceptin’ the weather is downright warm and sunny as all get out.

It’s good to know the readers of my haunt find some measure of enjoyment from their visits. Wish I could say when the next batch of corn liquor will be ready for distribution here. The still is somewhat in disrepair as I need to find a new coil for the distilling process. Only time will tell, however, it is just a matter of when, not if, if you understand my meaning.

Remember if you have to drink and drive, just drink and sleep it off where you fall because it’s a bitch trying to walk somewhere tanked up. Besides, you may find yourself face down in the swamp somewhere waiting for the gators to take their pleasure.

Hell, I could’ve made a post about drinking, gators, swamps, and such things but I didn’t. So, I leave what writing I’m inclined to pen on my replies for the moment.

      Here’s mud in your eye.

    26. BRILLIANT! This “…akin to the nature of a scorpion” explains why I am especially fond of Hawks — from a fellow “flying” Scorpion to another (since scorpio is aequally Pheonix which it also symbolizes :)

    27. Sib, thanks! ;-)

BTW, I’m the poisonous variety or a scorpion, as I’m flying off LMAO!

    28. Ciao Dimitri!
