Discovering a new WP feature . . .

I thought I would share a new feature I discovered recently which is a thing called Posting In The Future within the WordPress Editor.

For those of you who are not already familiar with this publishing option you may find it useful.

To keep it simple stupid, I had a few posts completed last night so I thought I would give it a whirl. After completing the drafts I changed the Post Timestamp (right sidebar of your editor page) for publication at different times scheduled for this morning. After changing the time stamp I published the posts. The only difference with using the future posting feature is whatever posts you publish remain in the queue waiting for the appointed time before appearing on the site. After returning home a short while ago I checked the site and wouldn’t you know it, the damn thing worked like a charm. Both posts magically appeared at their appointed time. Well, since they both were on the site when I checked late this morning, I will assume they posted at the designated time, LOL!

The link has been provided above so you don’t need me running off at the fingers with explaining how to do it.

A nice way to do a number of posts and have them publish while you are out-of-town or away for a spell.

CYA . . .

  1. Hawk,
Thats cool as hell. Just tried it and it seems to be working. Now we enter the age of stealth vacations. Thanks Bro. Dobry.

  2. I never really have paid attention to those features on the right side, so thanks for mentioning this one! Not sure I’ll ever get in the habit of using it (as if I’d be organized enough to have posts done in advance of a vacation! lol), but it is good to know that it is there, just in case.

  3. Polar, the age of stealth, LOL! I ran across this at Lorelle On WordPress (her site is on my roll under Sites About Blogging) a while ago and it just slipped my mind until recently. Her site has a wealth of useful information. Glad to hear you may have some use for it. See you later my dark and shadowy friend.

Deb, I periodically get a wild hair (no pun intended Harley) when I’m bored and scrounge around for tidbits of useful information. As far as organization is concerned, I can’t even get my sock drawer straight. The number of unmatched socks I have is embarrassing. Oops, the cat is out of the bag. Thanks for stopping by.

  4. It took me a while to discover this feature. I should use it more. Sometimes I’ll use it to resurrect a piece I’ve written long ago.

  5. Goldenferi, that’s right. I almost forgot that. You can resurrect an older post and even backdate one or several to an earlier date too. Thanks…

  6. Hi Hawk, just visiting and want to say thank you for visiting my blog. I will be back to explore more, looks like you have cool stuff here, I know it is wordpress mainly but hey never know. Thanks again, Anna :)

  7. Anna, no thanks needed. Love visiting your site when I have the opportunity to view the spectacular images you capture. We’ll see you on the next flight. Take care and good shooting…

  8. I like this feature in theory, but I’ve not yet used it. It’s nice when you want to have something for people to read each morning at 8:00 am.

  9. This looks like a really useful app…kinda wish I had a wordpress blog right now, lol!
    Maybe one day… :)
I shall keep it in mind..it looks like it helped you get back in the groove…you are back to some Super-Bloggin’ :)

  10. FW, it’s actually a nice feature to have. I already have a couple in the queue waiting for the appointed hour. I don’t know about posting something everyday. That’s OK for some folk but not this feathery bird. CYA…

Jesse, I just got back in the groove after getting sober. Maybe you should transition over to WP. That way, I can just put you in my blog surfer and catch you whenever I’m in the dashboard. Something to consider, eh?

  11. I’ve known about it but never used it. I cannot see a button and not push it so I find out many things that way - some good, some bad…

I’d noticed that you are a button pusher as well. As soon as I get a program on my puter I like to check everything out, see what it does.

Glad to see you! I’ve missed you. I’m having an evening where my eyes are cooperative so I’m going down my list and trying to get out and visit everyone. I’d seen you hadn’t posted for a while (as I hadn’t) but then tonight there’s all these posts!

I do hope all is well with you and that you’ve had some nice time perhaps away from the computer for a bit. I have been laying low, resting up -

I hope you have a beautiful day.

    Peace.

  12. Ruby, yeah, I’m kinda sorta like a button pusher. It’s my curious nature for discovery. I did take a little break but somehow it didn’t feel long enough as I’m sure you may feel similar. Thanks for sashaying around the nest for a while. My thoughts and prayers are with you my friend. Namaste…
